She was a Christian who publicly read her Bible at school, it was one of the reasons he thought she was weird at first. Also, in the movie, when she gives him a gift and says, "Don't worry, it's not a Bible.

" -IT WAS A BIBLE IN THE BOOK. Her mother had given it to her before she (the mom) died.
